It’s Media Monday and I was wondering who likes yard sales? I am, personally, not a fan but we have all heard the phrase, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Now I bet you are wondering how does this apply to social media?
The most common objection I hear about creating content on social media is “what do I write? No one wants read what I think”. That is because you think your content is trash! When in reality, what you think just might be a treasure to your customers.
People want to connect with people. And if you want them to connect with your business, they need to think they are connecting with the person behind the business. They don’t want you to talk at them; they are hungry for conversations with them.
So ask questions and be honest. If you just tried the new coffee at Starbucks and are in love, share it with your fans. Your content does not have to be all about your business all the time. Sometimes it needs to be about you.
The suggested formula for Twitter is 4-1-1.
- 4 – share content relevant to your business or the face of your business put out by others four times. Share a link or mention about a blog
- 1 – create one personal tweet, something about you
- 1 – retweet once, someone you agree with that you think your followers would also benefit from
If you follow this formula once a week or once a day, just multiply accordingly. Once you get comfortable devoting a little time to this, it will be come second nature. So share this blog and you will only have three more shares to complete today!
