When working with new clients we get a mix of reactions when we recommend a business blog. The clients who work in “low interest” categories are typically those who are most skeptical. The key is to understand what the blog can do for the business.
So we have compiled this top 5 list to help everyone understand the business value of a business blog.
#5 Establish your expertise – You know your business and you know it well. Spreading that knowledge through your blog demonstrates your expertise. What customers do not value expertise?
#4 Manage your reputation – It is easy for anyone to post anything online. Including unsatisfied customers and competitors. Your blog provides your company a voice online. What company does not need a voice in the marketplace?
#3 Reach your target audience – Even a low interest category will see spikes in interest from time to time. When interests peak people will be looking for information. That information may be found on your blog if you have one. What company does not want to be found by a potential customer?
#2 Perpetually increase your reach – Blog postings can have a long shelf life. A single posting can attract visitors for years. What business does not need assets that add value for years?
#1 Increase your search engine rank – Search engines love blogs and generally reward blogs with higher rankings. What company does not want to be better ranked by search engines?
Agree? Disagree? Post your comments.

Great summary! It is fun to see a client’s reaction when we show them where some of our blogs or other client’s blog posts show up in search.
Clients can also re-purpose the content from blog posts for email newsletters, case studies, etc.
@ Kevin – Good point. Re purposing content makes a whole lot of sense. Typically those who read your newsletter prefer content delivered, so are less likely to find the blog on their own.
