February 9th, 2011 · No Comments · Marketing, Web

In the first part of this series we covered Google’s search dominance. That search dominance has enabled Google to build a media empire that generates 4 times the ad revenue of Time-Warner as we pointed out in Part 2.

This is important perspective to have as we move into more bold predictions.

Google is investing their revenues into some important new technologies that are shaping our world in profound ways. One of these technologies is cloud computing.

Google operates on a cloud. Google offers paid cloud services for businesses that compete directly with Microsoft.

In our article Top 10 interactive Trends to Watch in 2011, we listed cloud computing at #6. This technology is a fundamental game changer that is reshaping our world. And that leads us to our next prediction.

Prediction:
Cloud computing will make Microsoft’s boxed software products obsolete.

Here’s why:
Cloud computing enables software and hardware to be purchased as a service.

For businesses this means no more Exchange servers. No more SQL servers. No more Office software.

The cloud revolution is well underway. Any business concerned with IT costs should be looking to the cloud for solutions.
