U.S. Internet usage now equal to television.

According to a newly released study from Forrester, Americans now spend as much time online as they do watching television.

While this may not be much of a surprise to most people, it is an important milestone in the evolution of media.

Lauren Indvik has written an excellent article at mashable.com that provides more details about the research findings.

The statistic we found most compelling was that television use has remained flat for the past five years, while Internet usage has grown by 121%. So chances are, we are witnessing the tipping point where television will take a back seat to the internet once and for all.

    Three words: “Internet Driven Televisions

    The market for television is going to change, no doubt about it. Google TV for example.
    I imagine the networks are going to fight to keep their foothold by eventually being blended into the market to the point that is unlike anything we think about in television today.

    Streaming media, thousands of “channels” and still nothing good to watch on Tuesday night.
